Our quest for twisted reds all month long continues with this week's entry - Primal Roots 2012. This is a California red blend, comprised of the "raw qualities" of Merlot, Syrah and Zinfandel, creating a full bodied, "sensual" wine - rocking quotes from the slicked up, cool labeled bottle. In all reality, It is a truly inexpensive (I paid less than $8), really good blend! Plus it's pretty - both in the bottle as mentioned, and in the glass - beautiful, deep, dark, red. A very appropriate choice for October!

On the nose, the aroma is heavy with black currant and and fruitful notes of cherry and berry, and just a hint of chocolate. Once sipped, you get a rush of flavor with all that black currant, plus some wonderful layers of fruity goodness. It's a lush rush, but finishes soft with a slightly oak-y linger. Very good! And at the price? Very affordable, made for sharing.

I enjoyed this wine on its own, and outfitted it with a snazzy cap - check out that photo! - but I'm sure this would be great with some delicious red meat, even a yummy meatloaf. Great pick at a great price.
