Seven Mountains Wine Cellars - Cayuga White

For each of our birthdays, the 2 Wine Divas took a vacation day from work and treated the other to a day of local fun! Treasure hunting is more like it - we toured book stores, antiques dealers, vintage jewelers, and of course....wine shops and wineries!

For my special day (June 30th - go ahead and mark your calendars now), Diva Diane picked me up at my place and drove us to Carlisle for a lovely formal tea! We enjoyed that tremendously, and us being us - we ended up visiting the very charming Castlerigg Wine Shop. Twice. Not even because the proprietor was outfitted in a kilt , but honestly this gem of a shop has a lot to offer - great, moody vibe that was very relaxing, a light plate menu available, local art displayed and plenty of seating. Oh, and wine...

This shop offers an impressive collection from 2 Pennsylvania-proud wineries, one of which we are familiar - the Vineyard at Grandview (sweeping views, delicious wines at their gorgeous spread in Mount Joy), and a new one for us - Seven Mountains Wine Cellars. Diane and I each enjoyed our selections, ranging dry to sweet and fruits too, sprinkled among both wineries' offerings that were both plentiful and delicious. I settled upon the Cayuga White because of its easy sipability, but will be back to purchase some chardonnay methinks! But about this Cayuga White, and visiting Seven Mountains sometime....

Not overly sweet, nor too tart, this starts as full and lush at first sip and light on the finish. Not too delicate, this fresh white leaves hints of melon and feels like it should be more expensive than its $13 price tag. The overall impression is reinforced with more sips, much to the delight of this Diva. I would be happy serving this with a nice roasted chicken, or just some crackers and cheese. Lovely!
